Where It All Began: The Finch Story

Finch Stage School was founded by Betty Finch, whose passion for the performing arts created a school rooted in creativity, discipline, and care. Still proudly family-run, Finch has grown into a thriving space where generations of young performers begin their journey — inspired by the same values Betty started with.

A Family Legacy Since 1933

Inspiring Young Performers for Over 90 Years

Founded in 1933 by the visionary Betty Finch, Finch Stage School has been a cornerstone of performing arts education for over 90 years. What began as Betty’s dream has blossomed into a multi-generational, family-run stage school that continues to nurture young talent with the same passion and dedication. Today, Finch remains rooted in its heritage, offering a supportive and inspiring environment where children can explore their creativity and grow into confident performers.

"The stage isn't just where we perform - it's where we become who we are" Linda Finch

The Legacy of

Linda Finch

A LIFE DEDICATED TO DANCE

From the moment she could stand, Linda Finch was immersed in dance. Surrounded by music and movement, she grew into an exceptional performer, a visionary choreographer and an inspirational teacher whose influence touched thousands of lives.

Her passion, creativity and unwavering belief in every student shaped not only a remarkable career but also a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Linda performed in leading roles in cabaret, musical theatre and television, touring across the UK and Europe. As a choreographer, she worked on countless productions for stage and screen, including Sweet Charity, West Side Story, Top of the Pops, the Benny Hill Show and Salute to the Thames.

Her creative talent extended to major events and promotions such as the Harrods Christmas Parade and Where the River Meets the Sea at the Millennium Dome, as well as prestigious theatre productions including South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Chess, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, Annie and many more.

As Principal of the Finch Stage School, Linda nurtured generations of performers.  A Life Member of the BATD London District Stage and Ballet Committee, she was a respected lecturer, mentor and friend whose knowledge and encouragement changed lives.

Linda's legacy lives on through the thousands of students she taught and inspired, and through the many dance schools and professionals who continue to carry her passion forward.

We remember Linda with immense love and gratitude. Though she can never be replaced, her light, her laughter and her love of dance will always guide us.

Our Finch Family Story

Where generations of performers have grown together

The heart of Finch Stage School is its founding family, whose dedication to performing arts education has shaped the school across generations.

Betty Finch laid the foundations of the school with a clear vision: to create a nurturing, disciplined, and inspiring environment where young dancers and performers could thrive. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to excellence established the values that Finch still stands by today.

That legacy was carried forward by Linda Finch, who continued to develop the school with the same passion and dedication. Under her leadership, Finch strengthened its reputation for high-quality training and a supportive, family-driven ethos.

Today, the school continues under the leadership of Nanci Beadle, ensuring that the values established from the very beginning remain at the core of everything we do. Nanci represents the modern evolution of Finch — combining tradition with a forward-thinking approach to training and performance opportunities.

Across every generation, one thing has remained constant: Finch is built on family, care, and a deep love for the performing arts.

Our Ethos – Passion, Discipline & Joy

Encouraging every child to learn, grow and enjoy the stage.

At Finch Stage School, we want our classes to be a place where children feel happy, confident and supported. We work hard to give every student a strong foundation in dance, singing and drama, while making sure they enjoy coming to class and feel proud of their progress.

We focus on:

Learning strong dance, singing and drama skills

Building confidence and self-belief

Helping children feel comfortable performing on stage

Learning to work together, listen and support one another

Encouraging every child to be themselves and do their best

For us, it’s not just about learning the steps. It’s about watching children grow in confidence, make friends, discover what they love and enjoy being part our Finch Family

A Family-Run School with a Personal Approach

Creating a warm, welcoming environment for every child.

Unlike large, commercial institutions, Finch remains proudly family-run. This means every student is known, valued, and supported as an individual.

Our teaching team is carefully selected for both professional experience and their ability to inspire young performers. Many of our staff have trained or worked professionally in the industry, bringing real-world insight into every class.

The result is a school that feels personal, safe, and motivating — a place where students are encouraged to grow at their own pace while being part of something bigger.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Encouraging children to dream big, believe in themselves and enjoy the journey

Over the years, Finch Stage School has trained generations of dancers, singers, and actors who have gone on to perform professionally or continue their training at leading colleges and institutions.

We are incredibly proud of every student who walks through our doors — whether they stay for fun, confidence-building, or a professional pathway.

What matters most is that they leave Finch with:

Confidence in themselves

A strong sense of discipline and work ethic

A lifelong love of the performing arts
